Biaxially oriented film, by the nature of the process, requires one of the most demanding technologies for flat die extrusion. The necessity for good layer to layer distribution and overall gauge caliper becomes amplified in the orienting process. Here again, Cloeren has lead the industry through an intimate understanding of the process and the requirements to increase production rates over an ever-evolving range of polymers and structures. We offer the most extensive combination of feedblocks, single and multi-manifold dies, affording the processor the greatest flexibility in exceeding these demands.

Technology advances have allowed quantum leaps in production rates, while maintaining excellent layer to layer gauge uniformity and precise overall film thickness control. These include:
  • Multi-manifold dies for uniform layer to layer gauge control with the ability to individually change each layer width, employing our Fixed Length Deckle System
  • Feedblock design providing the ability to produce sophisticated five and seven layer films
  • AutoGauge™ lip adjustment system for automatic computer managed web thickness profile control
  • Removable manifold prelands that allow the die flow channel to be changed as market demands change
  • Strong Back die design permitting very high flow rates with minimal mechanical deflection and distortion of the die.

Biaxially oriented film is used mainly for flexible packaging such as potato chip bags and cigarette wrappers, as well as many consumer-packaging applications. Cloeren supplies dies for processing biaxially oriented polyamide, polyethylene terephthalate, polystyrene and polypropylene.
