The extrusion coating and laminating industry demanded a flexible lip die that allowed an easy, fast adjustment of web width, while reducing or eliminating the edge bead. Cloeren answered the call with outstanding technology.

The Edge Bead Reduction (EBR™) Deckle System is the single most significant advancement in this industry since computer-based profile control. One processor has over 60 Cloeren EBR™ dies and continues to order more. This technology allows processors to change the width of the extrudate while running, as well as reduce or eliminate the extruded edge bead and resulting edge trim.

Cloeren extrusion coating product features and benefits include:
  • Our Edge Bead Reduction (EBR™) Internally Deckled Die consists of independently adjustable components: a patented, full-length solid deckle plug, a solid deckle blade and a deckle rod. An external seal interlocked with the edge bead reduction system insures optimum sealing. This system affords the processor the ability to reduce or eliminate the extruded edge bead and edge trim in extrusion coating and laminating processes. It also allows operators to change the width of the extrudate, on the fly, with reduced downtime. Motorized deckle options decrease die set-up time even further. The EBR™ system will provide for significant material savings, not to mention the noticeable increase in productivity.
  • Cloeren's AutoGauge™ Lip Adjustment System, in conjunction with an automatic profile control (APC) package and gauge, permits the user to extrude polymers to exacting tolerances. The heart of the AutoGauge™ System is the patented thermal translator that allows for fast, repeatable movement of the flexible lip. The APC System continuously monitors the web, providing a signal to the translator, which opens or closes the die lip for optimum cross-directional uniformity. AutoGauge™ helps reduce variations in product thickness and allows closer target tolerances, thus saving polymer.
Today, Cloeren offers the most extensive and innovative combination of feedblocks and dies for the extrusion coating and laminating industry. These systems help processors produce board coating for cup stock; milk cartons; drink boxes; detergent boxes; tooth past tubes; flexible packaging for the snack food industry; and industrial woven and non woven products.
