Because of Cloeren's expertise and extensive experience in coextrusion across all applications, and because of our commitment to and reputation for technical breakthroughs, we are often consulted to develop systems for new and highly specialized applications. We have provided die system and process solutions for a number of unique uses such as specialty coating and stranding.

Specialty Coatings

Cloeren manufactures dies for specialty coating applications, including proximity coating dies for the production of pressure-sensitive adhesives, hot-melt adhesives, and aqueous, emulsion, solution and curtain coatings.

In the past, these types of products were produced by spraying the material on a substrate or by reverse roll-coating stations or doctor blades. Today, Cloeren provides a number of dies that have improved the manufacture of specialty coatings. We offer innovative designs, including flexible lip dies, fixed-slot lip dies and a variety of custom configurations, including coextrusion dies.

Cloeren specialty coating dies are manufactured to the most exacting tolerances in our climate-controlled precision grinding and lapping room, where laser inspection certifies dimensional accuracy. We offer a wide range of construction materials to suit your application - from mold steel and stainless steel to wear-resistant tool steel.

Strand Dies

Strand dies are used to produce resin pellets after the polymerization process, to repelletize in-line thermoforming scrap, edge trim and post-consumer scrap; and in the manufacturing of non woven fabrics. There are two basic designs: the fishtail style for low-output, narrow-strand plate dies and the split-body style for wider, high-output dies. The split-body design incorporates a preland to ensure uniform flow through each hole of the strand plate. Cloeren offers a variety of strand plate configurations to suit the polymer and application. Wear-resistant tool steel or stainless steel is the material of choice. Hole diameter and angle of egress are designed per your specifications.
